Morphometry:

Diameter Range: 65 to 70 µm

Species Description:

Mini Description: Valve slightly convex. Areolae in straight tangential rows (quincunx pattern) even in size across the valve face, much smaller in a narrow marginal zone. Short robust spines (processes?) forming a marginal ring (7-8 μm apart).
Original Name Coscinodiscus praelineatus Jouse, 1968: Valva regulariter subconvexa, margine angusto 65-70 µm in diam., regulariter areolata, areolis recte seriatis, seriebus inter se persectis, 5-6 pro 10 µm, ad marginem valde minoribus, aream marginalem angustam formantibus; aculei crassissimi breves marginales, ad 7-8 µm inter se remoti; interdum ad marginem striae 8-9 pro 10 µm observantur. Species nostra structura ac areolarum dispositione Coscinodisco lineato Ehrenberg, sed aculeis marginalibus crassissimus differt. Progenitor ut videtur C. lineati, speciei hodie viventis est."
Translation from the Russian: Valve evenly slightly convex with a narrow margin, 65-70 µm in diameter. Valve evenly covered with areolae, forming strictly straight mutually criss-crossing rows, 5-6 areolae every 10 µm. Near the valve margin the areolae sharply decrease in size and form a narrow marginal zone. Very coarse short spines lie along the valve margin set 7-8 µm apart. Sometimes along the valve margin striae are noted, 8-9 in 10 µm. Unknown in the Recent ocean plankton, also not found in the surface sediment layer. Characteristic for the flora of the middle Pleistocene in sediments of the equatorial zone of the Pacific Ocean. Probably an extinct species.
