General Remarks
Ob structuram haud pennatam et formam valvae genus hoc ad familiam Rutilariaceae Pantocsek ordinis Mediales Jouse et Proshkina-Lavrenko (1949, Diatomovyy Analiz, lib. 2, p. 210) referri potest. Genus novum generi Rutilariopsis V. Heurck (Van Heurck, 1896, A Treatise on the Diatomaceae. London: William Wesley and Son, p. 459) affine est, a quo tamen umbonibus tuberculiferis et valvae superficie haud aculeata differt. A genere Rutilaria Greville (Van Heurck, 1896, op. cit., p. 433) processu centrali noduloso nullo distat.
[Translation]: Absence of any pennate structure and the shape of the valve allow us to refer this genus to the Order Mediales Jouse and Proshkina-Lavrenko (1949, in: Diatomovyy Analiz, book 2, p. 210) and the Family Rutilariaceae Pantocsek. The new genus is close to Rutilariopsis Van Heurck (1896, A Treatise on the Diatomaceae. London: William Wesley and Son, p. 459), differing from it in having ringlike tubercles on the convexities of the valve and by having no spines. From Rutilaria Greville it differs, moreover, by lacking the nodular expression in the center of the valve.
Additional Remarks
by Akiba and Yanagisawa (1986, p. 494):
The genus has long been regarded as monospecific since its erection, but Akiba (1980) suggested that its type species, K. carina, is heterogenous, and Akiba (this volume) describes a second species of the genus, K. ezoensis. We describe here another species, K. magnaareolata. It is possibly not a Neogene species, but we tentatively include it here for the purpose of demonstrating that Kisseleviella will be represented by more species in the course of future investigations. The systematic position of this genus is not yet certain (Simonsen, 1979), although close relationships of the genus with other genera such as Cymatosira, Rutilariopsis, and Campylosira have been suggested (Fenner, 1979 - 1978?). Possibly, it is an extinct member of family Cymatosiraceae, established by Hasle et al. (1983).
