An area of small pores at the apices of the valves; the pores are usually arranged in longitudinal rows, otherwise similar to the ocellus of the centric diatoms (Hasle & Syvertsen, 1996).
A differentiated area of porelli at the apices of raphid and araphidpennate diatom valves (Round, Crawford, & Mann, 1990).
